The Yamaha official occupies 4th position in the World Championship, 19 strides behind Fabio Quartararo who is the leader. Nothing is decided however and the Spaniard prefers to remain focused on the moment even if this Spanish weekend begins for him under the best auspices.

The wearer of the number 12 dominated hands down this day of free sessions, however he does not want to have too many illusions given past races. Last year, the victory having been won by Honda with Marc Marquez as fencing master in front of the Ducatis ofAndrea Dovizioso and Jack Miller. The teammate of Valentino Rossi had finished at the foot of the podium, in an unattractive 4th position.

«A rather positive day, although it was difficult to drive this morning, it was very windy. I feel very good on the track and I drive cleaner than at Le Mans. We are working on the bike to best adapt it to my riding style. We still need to improve but we are on the right track " told Maverick at the end of this first day.

He concludes: " It's true that the Ducatis are not there, but it's only Friday. We must stay focused, continue our efforts and see where they will be tomorrow. Today it was very windy and I think Ducati is suffering more than us. "
