Fabio Quartararo thought he would find himself in difficulty in the sprint race and finally found pace during the first laps.
fabio quartararo did not have such an idyllic Saturday as the last three Grands Prix which saw him take pole position. The Frenchman first had to make a run through Q1 sincehe failed to make the top ten yesterday, due to major problems with the soft tire encountered by all Yamaha riders.
Today the situation improved a little as he escaped Q1 and was able to participate in Q2, where he qualified in ninth place. When the lights went out, he made an excellent sprint start and gained three places, to finish the first lap in sixth position. He had long hoped for a top 5 finish, before contact with Maverick Viñales caused him to fall down the standings.
Tenth with four laps to go, he lost another position with the overtaking of Raúl Fernández, to finally cross the checkered flag in 11th place. A result far from the performance shown in the last Grands Prix, but which was still better than expected. When debriefing his race, Quarterly had rather a smile, and the hope of being able to do better tomorrow.
"Honestly, I didn't expect to be so good in the first laps.", he declared on the microphone of Canal +. "We had a lot of chatter at the back from the second lap, we didn't understand why. Otherwise the feeling was better than expected. Afterwards we made some mistakes, we were pushing a little too much but I think the feeling we had today was even better than in qualifying. It's just that the chatter we had was really weird."
"I think with the medium tire tomorrow it could be better. I'm not going to expect a top 5, but I think we'll have a slightly better race. I think all the riders will use the medium-medium tires and it will be the same for everyone."
