The Japanese driver experienced a complicated Aragón Grand Prix and saved the furniture with a top 10, which he wants to improve on in the next GPs.

Unlike his teammate Cal Crutchlow, Takaaki Nakagami had another complicated weekend in Aragón. Never at the forefront, the Japanese suffered throughout the practice sessions, which he ultimately finished in 13th position in the combined times standings. Forced to go through Q1, he was unable to progress and had to settle for 14th position.

Starting from the fifth row, the LCR driver also experienced a difficult race, conditioned by a few errors, but was finally able to enter the top 10, a more than satisfactory result given all the problems encountered since Friday.

“It was really hard from the start. First of all, I made a big mistake at the start by doing a big wheelie which I didn't expect because our start simulations had gone well throughout the weekend.", he explained upon arrival. “That made things complicated. Then I tried to overtake [Danilo] Petrucci but I wasn't able to stop the bike and ended up off the track, so I lost two more places. I tried to come back again and maintain the pace until the end, but the race was long because I was alone for many laps. »

“In the end I was able to catch the top 10 group, made up of Petrucci, Iannone and Oliveira, with about three or four laps to go. I gave my best and we got a top 10, which isn't bad, but our pace wasn't great. So we still have room to improve the bike. »
