Returned only a month ago after two months of convalescence, Olive tree must also deal with his physical condition, which is necessarily reduced, and with his knowledge of the motorcycle, which is less important than the other representatives.
Having joined Aprilia from KTM, the Portuguese rider had to learn everything he could about the Yamaha, and so he was at the bottom of the standings throughout the weekend, struggling with the same issues as his teammates. Qualifying 16th on the grid, he finished 15th in the sprint race, being one of the few riders to opt for the medium rear tire. With the entire grid choosing this tire for Sunday's main race, he expected the level to rise.
After a complicated start, which saw him drop back to 19th place, he gradually climbed back up thanks to falls at the front, which allowed him to grab the point for 15th place. The #88 driver deserves credit for staying on his wheels, something that was particularly difficult due to the vibrations.
"I think we could more or less copy and paste the problems encountered by Jack [Miller]. I also felt some vibrations on the right side, especially on the entry to Turns 3 and 13. But the biggest problem for me was the front end locking up in the early and mid-race, and the bike being unbalanced between a full and empty tank. It was really difficult to keep the bike on track for the first ten laps. Once the fuel load was lightened, things got a bit easier, but there's still a lot of work to do.", he said upon arrival.
Always looking for improvement, Miguel Oliveira was counting on this Monday's test to move up a gear: "Tomorrow we will focus on some key areas that need improvement, particularly time attack, where we are currently struggling a lot."
