Marini Argentina

A factory Honda rider since the start of 2024, Marini hadn't had many happy days until now; in Argentina, he saw a glimpse of blue sky through the dark clouds of his recent career. This 11th place finish at the Grand Prix is a very good result, which demonstrates Honda's progress as a manufacturer. It's not just Johann Zarco who is moving forward, but the whole firm, except perhaps Somkiat Chantra who is making his debut in the premier class. Marini is happy even if he thinks there was perhaps still better to do.

The Italian driver, completely stoic, did not exult but was very happy with the progress made. « My pace towards the end of the race was really good, we made a big, big step forward with the bike settings compared to yesterday. My team did a great job. It's a bit of a shame because Miller slipped at the beginning, so I had to change direction, which made us lose a little bit » he asserted.

The gap between him and Joan Mir was sometimes worrying in terms of pure pace last year. In Thailand, this was the case again. But this Sunday, Marini finished close to the 2020 World Champion. "I managed to get close to Mir by almost four seconds after battling with many pilots, which meant I had no more tires at the end to try and overtake him for tenth place. During the race we were able to understand other areas to work on in the next rounds, which should allow us to improve » he continued.

The downside remains the qualifications: more generally, the speed in the case of Luca Marini. But he doesn't give up and remains determined. « Overall it was a good weekend with some limitations and the picture for Honda is becoming more positiveWe need to find something in qualifying to avoid this kind of situation at the start of the race, but I'm really happy with our work." he concluded.
