Alex Márquez qualified in second position and will therefore start on the front row alongside his brother Marc in the race, hoping to be able to fight for victory.
After realizing a solid start to the weekend in Argentina finishing third in FP1 and Practice, Alex Marquez confirmed his very good pace this Saturday by taking the best time in FP2 this morning, while he was working on his race pace, like most of the other drivers.
"This morning, I think we took a step forward in terms of pace, we were competitive. We rode on the soft tire until almost the end of the race [simulation], even though there were seven or eight laps left, but it was enough. We did three-quarters of a race and I felt good so I'm happy.", he told Motosan.
Automatically qualified for Q2, he encountered the opposite problem to his brother by failing to improve his time in his second run. Nevertheless, he took second place and will therefore start from the front row in the sprint race later, and in the main race tomorrow. "It's a shame I couldn't improve with the second tire. I even finished half a tenth off my time, but I'm happy with how the day went.", he added.
Although he was unable to really get involved in the fight for victory at the Thailand Grand Prix two weeks ago, he hopes it will be possible this time, even though he is aware that his elder is very fast: "Today the important thing will be to get off to a good start and attack from the beginning. I think we're a bit closer to Marc than we were in Thailand. […] So we'll see if we can at least fight with him. […] We'll see what we do, but I think I felt good with the soft [tyre], so that will probably be my option for the sprint."
Join us at 19 p.m. French time to follow Alex Marquez during the sprint race.
