First during the first practice session of the Portuguese Grand Prix, Alex Marquez qualified 13th before finishing the Sprint 9th and the Grand Prix 5th.

It is therefore a new face that the “brother of” offers us since his time at Ducati within the Gresini Racing team, and this earned him to be invited to the second press conference before the Argentine Grand Prix , in the company of Johann zarco et fabio quartararo.

Very logically, the Catalan declared himself satisfied with his Portuguese Grand Prix, even if he still has room for improvement.

« Yes, I enjoyed it. The important thing is that since the first day on the Ducati we have been improving. Ok, it was my first weekend on a Ducati with Gresini, we made a few mistakes, we weren't in Q2, we were in Q1 and we missed Q2 by a few tenths, we know the things we have to improve. It was the first time on Sunday that we did a full race distance, so we had problems in the last 10/11 laps, we managed the pace to be there but I defended the position quite well and I I was at least able to set some good times. We are clear on what we need to improve on, and not repeating the same mistakes will be key here. The track is completely different, with little grip, and for this reason I think the first four races will be important to see how we can be, if we can be good on tracks that have completely different conditions. We will try to give the best of ourselves and have fun on the bike. »

On points to improve, Alex Marquez still needs to break away from old habits...

« It's not just about trying to adapt the bike to me, I still ride too much like the Honda. I try to exploit the potential on trajectories that I don't need to take, or I don't need to push like that. I used the H too much in the race and that's where we need to improve, riding style wise. As I said, we have some ideas, we have a clear direction where we need to be and the first races will be a progression to adapt and be more complete when we arrive in Europe. »

About his brother Marc, the 3 Moto2014 world champion and 2 Moto2019 world champion remains evasive…

« It's not for me to say when he will come back, he will take things day by day, but he has a team manager and a team to say that. He's calm, he's doing well, he was injured on Sunday and he's feeling pretty good. He missed the Argentine GP for two years and he's not happy, but that's how it is, he made the mistake, he accepts it, that's all. In racing and in this part of the job, we will see this many times and in different ways this year. »

Alex Marquez is currently 6th in the championship, with 12 points.
