MotoGP Argentina J.3 Jack Miller talks about this crazy day!

After being the only one to have made the correct choice of tires to start the Argentine Grand Prix, Jack Miller found himself alone on pole position on the starting grid. He even refused to leave the latter, not wishing to lose the advantage acquired by his risky bet (See here)

He had obtained the best time in qualifying the day before on a partially wet track, a great feat which was duly praised by his Pramac Racing team.

The GP starting procedure was long and complicated, then finally Jack set off first in front of all his colleagues. The fight could begin.

Marc Marquez overtook Jack Miller but after disrupting the start procedure, the latter was penalized with a “ride through” and with 18 laps to go Jack Miller took back command. At the end of the ninth lap, Miller was ahead of Alex Rins by 0.534, who was ahead of Johann Zarco, Cal Crutchlow, Andrea Dovizioso and Tito Rabat. At the halfway point, Jack was ahead of a group made up of Alex Rins, Johann Zarco and Cal Crutchlow. Andrea Dovizioso was fighting for fifth position 14 seconds further, with Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales.

The fight for the first four places was interesting because it pitted a Ducati against a Suzuki, a Yamaha and a Honda. 9 laps from the checkered flag, Rins took the lead, who had never won a MotoGP race, like Johann Zarco and unlike Jack Miller and Cal Crutchlow.

Crutchlow was in second position with 7 laps remaining. We remember that the two men had been teammates in MotoGP on Honda at LCR.

Four laps from the checkered flag, Johann Zarco, Alex Rins and Cal Crutchlow separated slightly from Jack Miller. His delay of more than two seconds seemed difficult to make up for.

Finally Cal Crutchlow won the race in front Johann zarco et alex rins, while Jack Miller finished in fourth position.

Jack Miller recounts his race: ” C’était une situation folle sur la grille, je pouvais voir la pluie s’arrêter, je pouvais voir que la piste était encore sèche, et que le vent poussait juste les nuages et la pluie. Nous avons donc décidé de prendre le pari et j’espérais que cela serait payant pour nous, mais ce n’était pas le cas, et nous devions donc accepter la situation. C’est comme ça ! Je pense que nous avons fait la bonne chose, et nous ne pouvons pas dire que quelqu’un d’autre a fait la mauvaise chose, mais c’était étrange d’être assis sur la grille quand il y a 24 motos et il n’y avait personne d’autre ! Ils [les organisateurs] ont fait de leur mieux sous une telle pression, puis il a recommencé à pleuvoir, et j’ai pensé “oh Jésus, ça va être un autre cauchemar”. Et puis la moto de Marc a calé sur la grille, c’était juste le chaos partout.

I just tried not to get overwhelmed by my emotions and to be as mature as possible, which is sometimes not my strong point.
“On y va, on n’y va pas ? “. J’ai été capable de rester calme et de me concentrer, donc j’étais content de ça.”

What were you doing on the grid to stay calm?

“Jurer beaucoup ! C’est un peu doux-amer, c’est certain. Après avoir mené la course pendant si longtemps, et la pole et tout ça, ça fait un peu mal de ne pas repartir avec un podium, mais dans l’ensemble c’était une bonne journée. J’ai essayé de rouler intelligemment, surtout sur les premiers tours, après toute l’agitation qui s’est produite sur la grille. Et même quand Marc est passé, j’ai juste essayé de l’accrocher et de le suivre aussi longtemps que possible, parce que je savais que je pouvais peut-être le suivre, même s’il avait tellement plus de vitesse que nous tous.

Il était très rapide aujourd’hui et il m’a extrait des autres gars, et je me suis dit “si je peux le suivre, il va m’emmener avec lui” pour essayer de m’éloigner des loups derrière moi. Ensuite, il y a eu quelques erreurs coûteuses plus tard dans la course.

Avec Rins, Crutchlow et Zarco derrière moi, j’ai ressenti beaucoup de pression et j’ai juste freiné un peu… pas même trop tard, non, mais je suis juste rentré un peu trop tard dans le dernier virage, et tu devais être très précis pour ne pas toucher l’eau. J’ai touché l’eau, je les ai laissés passer, puis j’ai essayé de tout rattraper sur les freins dans le virage 1, mais j’ai élargi et j’étais comme ça, “NOOOON !”. C’est juste un désastre.

Then I attacked two more laps to try to catch them, but it wasn't enough, I didn't have enough tires, I had worn them out a lot trying to follow Marc, then by myself, with no one in front. I was just driving at the limit.

Je pense que j’ai beaucoup appris dans ce Grand Prix, et c’est un week-end incroyable pour moi et l’équipe. Pole position, quatrième dans la course, ça aurait été un peu plus agréable d’être sur le podium, mais je suis vraiment heureux pour Alex qu’il obtienne son premier, et Suzuki et ces gars le méritent. Je suis heureux d’être la première Ducati aujourd’hui, et nous verrons ce que Austin nous apporte. “
