The arrival of the Mexican Grand Prix on the 2019 calendar was planned for this summer and then canceled. However, this cancellation seems to be only temporary and Mexico could make its entry the following year, in 2020. This is in any case a possibility stated by Carmelo Ezpeleta, the president of Dorna, but which will only be effective once the necessary work has been carried out: “We are in contact with Mexico to organize a Grand Prix there. This could be done in 2020. We are in the middle of negotiations because we believe that the security put in place for Formula 1 is not sufficient for us and that development work must be carried out. »

Indeed, the main problem comes from a sector of the Hermanos Rodríguez motorway that is far too dangerous for motorcycles: “This cannot be considered as being done because we are in the process of seeing if the work can be carried out. We cannot drive in the part where the cars pass under the stands because there is no clearance. They are looking at how they could divert this part and bring in both competitions. »

However, given the success of the new Grand Prix on the calendar, in Thailand, everything will certainly be done so that MotoGP can go to Mexico before long. The economic benefits are indeed extremely important, both for the region hosting the Grand Prix and for the organization: “The Thai government has indicated that the economic impact of the Grand Prix weekend was 65 million euros. » A reality that must necessarily be taken into account…
