Pedro Acosta experienced a Dutch Grand Prix as intense as it was cruel. The 21-year-old Spaniard, who had one of his best performances of the season, saw his day end in hospital... suffering an allergic reaction to a wasp sting.

Sunday, on the Assen TT circuit, Acosta had nevertheless distinguished himself on the handlebars of his Official KTMStarting ninth, the Spanish prodigy led a solid comeback, quickly joining the fight for the podium. On the ninth lap, he even provisionally took third place thanks to an authoritative maneuver on Pecco Bagnaia.

His passion also placed him at the heart of another significant episode of the race: Alex Marquez, then in a fight with Acosta, fell on the exit of turn 5 after contact, ruining his title hopes by breaking my left hand in battle.

Acosta, he continued his effort. Third for a long time, he was however unable to contain the comeback of bagnaia in the final third of the race. He ultimately finished fourth, his best result in dry conditions this season.

But the joy quickly turned into a nightmare. Moments after crossing the finish line, Acosta was stung by a wasp. The allergic reaction required his transfer to the hospital, as confirmed by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing :

Pedro Acosta, Alex Marquez, Fermin Aldeguer… this Grand Prix will have left its mark well beyond the finish line.

« Pedro will not be able to make any media appearances today as he has to be taken to hospital due to an allergic reaction to a wasp sting. »

Despite this unexpected setback, Acosta leaves Assen with 14 additional points. Eighth in championnat with 98 points, he remains the best representative of KTM in a ranking dominated by Marc Marquez.

Acosta is not the only driver to have missed the post-race press conference. Alex Marquez, second in the championship, has headed to Spain to undergo an operation on his fractured left hand after his accident with Acosta.

Fermin Aldeguer, teammate of Alex Marquez at Gresini, was also unavailable after having suffered from dizziness following a heavy fall at turn 12. In the same incident, Joan Mir (Castrol Honda) found itself involved, hitting the Ducati Gresini crashed and also ended up in the gravel trap.

The Assen GP will definitely have left its mark well beyond the finish line.
