MotoGP

It's a little music that is played louder and louder behind the scenes of MotoGP. A tune with this refrain: motorcycles have become too efficient. Top speeds are stratospheric, drivers are physically worn out and the run-off zones on the circuits are no longer sufficient in terms of safety. Marc Marquez, the same one who knew no fear before he was physically reduced on a poorly performing Honda, asserts himself in fact as the spokesperson for a reform to be made. And imagine that it will arrive...

First of all, there is the speech, repeated over and over, which suggests that the MotoGP has reached a milestone in terms of performance which raises the question of security. Marc Marquez is the cantor: “ I already said it in Jerez. We are in a championship in which the engineers work hard. We must have the best and fastest motorcycles in the world. It is clear because we are racing in the highest championship. But you can't do that and ask manufacturers to limit performance. At the end of the day, you have to find a limit differently ", Explain Marquez.

Top speed has been improved. The bikes and engines are almost identical, but something has been found in terms of aerodynamics. And then there is the workhorse of the eight-time World Champion who is also an official driver Honda : " I don't feel safe with the Holeshot Device. I might be able to make up some time, but at Honda we're not ready to use the straight line system yet ».

Then the Spaniard adds Motorsport-total : " we are already working with other manufacturers to have the optimal balance in terms of performance. If we continue like this, at some point all the clearance zones will be too small ».

But then what solutions should be adopted to calm down those pesky Ducati, or rather, officially, to have a safer MotoGP? It is enough to concentrate on the theme of ecology and its counterpart of a sustainable mode of operation… However, Dorna has done everything to ensure that performance remains controlled: single manufacturer, standard electronics, tank limited to 22 liters. But engineers are very inventive…

By 2023, MotoGP must have changed

SO ? So, according to speedweek, we will lower the capacity of the tank from 22 to 20 liters with less polluting fuel in it, which will calm the enthusiasm of the horsepower. On the tire side, the rubbers should also change to comply with politically correct manufacturing, operating and recycling standards. The movement is launched, and it was confirmed by this declaration from May 21, bearing the seals of FIM, IRTA, MSMA and Dorna announcing that the “FIM MotoGP World Championship” would focus more on sustainability in all three categories.

All participants agreed that racing fuel needs to be made more environmentally friendly. “ Accordingly, all parties also agree that this opportunity should also be used to discuss overall solutions regarding the performance of MotoGP machines in order to improve rider safety"Dorna said.

The objective is to have a MotoGP en 2023 already very different from the current one. Might as well say tomorrow. And if the objective cannot be achieved by consensus, then there will always be grounds to limit the maximum engine speed. Eventually, Marc Marquez is in the direction of the story...
