This end of the year is an opportunity for the leading media to make their rankings of the season's athletes. Two names embarked on the exercise, one Italian with Gazzetta dello Sport which requested its editorial staff, and the other, Spanish with Marca which carried out a survey among its readers. Two processes and two nations which nevertheless brought more or less the same results. And what will please Fabio Quartararo will also disappoint Valentino Rossi…
The 2019 MotoGP season has ended and the results recorded motivate the verdicts and other assessments. The Spanish title Marca and the Italian media Gazzetta dello Sport do not speak the same language nor use the same tools for their synthesis and yet, it seems practically identical.
Let's start with Trademarks which launched a survey among its readers to elect the pilot of the year. Naturally, Marc Márquez came first with 3 votes, followed by Quarterly at 1 and Kidneys with 1. A ranking which also puts Valentino Rossi last with only 346 votes. The penultimate is Jorge Lorenzo whileAndrea Dovizioso, still vice-world champion for the third time in a row, is not only a sad fourteenth but above all ranked behind his teammate Petrucci... We note that, in the first 6 positions, there are 5 Spaniards. We are patriotic on the other side of the Pyrenees!
And beyond the Alps? There Sports Gazette responds by outright castigating the national icon Valentino Rossi. If the man from Tavullia comes away with a 5 out of 10, the comment is concise: “ perhaps the worst season in MotoGP because in the Ducati years there was the excuse of a non-competitive bike which, this year, does not hold up. Only two podiums in the first 3 Grand Prix testify to the difficulties of Vale, often the slowest of the Yamaha riders. »
Still for the Milanese newspaper, the king of the year in MotoGP is Marc Márquez, who got a nice 10. Just behind him, we find Quarterly with a 9 followed in turn by Andrea Dovizioso credited with an 8,5.
The Italian title gives the worst evaluation to Jorge Lorenzo with a 3 and the following caption: “ a long, slow agony. Jorge has the excuse of injuries, but a reaction from him was expected. Instead, after the fall of Assen, he ran with fear and reflected on the economic impasse with the HRC to terminate the contract. »
Un Valentino Rossi pointed and a fabio quartararo put in the spotlight are the two strong trends of these studies. What does Yamaha think?
