GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 is counting down the days until Pol Espargaro is ready to return to his RC16, but in the meantime, and starting with the Grand Prix of the Americas at COTA in mid-April, the team and brand will count on the speed and experience of the former MotoGP podium finisher, Jonas Folger.

The 29-year-old German will make his first appearance in MotoGP since 2017 and since taking on the role of official test rider. Jonas has previously represented the Tech3 team – achieving a thrilling result at their national Grand Prix – and is therefore familiar with the team and its culture.

Pol Espargaro returned to Barcelona last weekend, where he underwent jaw surgery. The procedure took place on Tuesday at Dexeus Hospital. He will remain under observation for a few days and hopes to be able to return home quickly to intensify his physiotherapy and define a timetable for getting back in the saddle.

Jonas Folger : " First of all, I hope Pol is well and gets back on his feet as quickly as possible. I'm sure he has the right people around him. For my part, I can't wait to resume competition and arrive in Texas to see all the members of my old team! I hope we can do a good job and I know it will be a big challenge for me since the testing has just started. However, it will be a great opportunity to get back up to speed and learn more about motorcycling. I am grateful and now waiting for Texas. »

Nicolas Goyon, Manager of the GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 team: “ It is clear that Pol needs time to fully recover, our thoughts are always with him and we are in constant contact. Until he is ready, Jonas' role in testing and his recent MotoGP experience make him the ideal replacement. We had good memories with him a few years ago and he tested with us at Sepang during pre-season. He's a great guy and we're excited to welcome him back. »
