Alex Marquez Australia

Alex Márquez made a fantastic start in the sprint race but then fell victim to some poor choices on his Ducati.

Alex Marquez did not have a restful Saturday but still managed to save the day and score important points for the championship. In the top 5 at the end of the first day, he was one of the favorites in qualifying, but he suffered two falls, which did not however put him too far back on the grid since he started from sixth position.

As the lights went out, he jumped out and made an incredible start, taking the lead into the first corner. He was quickly overtaken by Raúl Fernández and Marco Bezzecchi, who was ahead of the rest today, but could have aimed for third place on the podium. At the halfway point, he was overtaken by Pedro Acosta and Jack Miller, then by Fabio Di Giannantonio with two laps to go. The reasons were a poor tire choice and settings that didn't suit his Ducati.

"It wasn't a good race, but not a bad one either," said pilot Gresini. “I expected better, especially after the start I made. I made a mistake choosing the medium front tire, because after four laps it was already ruined. We also tried a different setup on the bike to avoid crashes like the ones I had in qualifying. The soft tire creates a lot of problems on our bike, we struggle a lot so we tried something to solve that, but it didn't improve anything and the bike got worse in other areas. We tried to survive.”

Although he has good hopes of getting back on track tomorrow, he is struggling to see victory and sees himself finishing behind Fernández and Bezzecchi, despite the Italian's penalty. "I think the favorites are the Aprilia riders, they have something extra. It's true that Marco has two long laps, but I think that even with that he can catch the leading group. So it will be interesting to see which rider will take responsibility for setting the pace. We will try to be there, we can have a good chance of a result.", concluded Márquez.
