Bastianini Australia

Enea Bastianini may have gotten off to a very bad start to his Australian Grand Prix, that's a fact, but it must be said that he bounced back well in the Sprint. "Bestia" is having an extremely complicated season, in the truest sense of the word. Yet he seemed to have discovered all the secrets of the KTM RC16, a machine that is so difficult to tame, around mid-season.After the revival in Brno, he even managed to get onto the podium in Catalonia... and since then, everything has been much more difficult, just like at the beginning of the year.

The Italian started only 20th at Phillip Island, a dismal result. And yet, during the Sprint, he managed to move up no fewer than 10 positions. « I improved in the race, but I had a lot of trouble in qualifying.I didn't have the confidence to attack and I was always on the outside, which prevented me from setting a good lap. In the Sprint, however, the hard front tire allowed me to brake more easily and gradually improve my pace. Unfortunately, starting 20th is painful, zero » he confided in the columns of GP One.

"Bestia" has undergone numerous adjustments since landing on Australian soil. « I went back to the standard settings from yesterday morning, while we touched on the engine brake and power. It was just too difficult for me to slow the bike down. This intervention on the engine brake was decisive. In the end, we made good progress. » he continued.

It's worth noting that he's racing without his longtime chief mechanic Alberto Giribuola, who left KTM Tech3 overnight to join Yamaha Pramac, in anticipation of Toprak Razgatlioglu's arrival. Bastianini doesn't feel that destabilized: « I don't think it's a real problem.. I lost time adapting to the new way of working, but, in the end, everything is going well. The results are not immediate, but I am convinced that we will return to where we were before the end of the season ».
