What a maestro on a qualifying lap. In Australia, Fabio Quartararo has once again demonstrated his incredible speed, securing his fifth pole position of the seasonThe Yamaha rider, who had never really been comfortable on this track, excelled. The only problem was that he was unable to take advantage of his advantage during the Sprint, notably due to a poor tire choice... for which he fully accepts responsibility. It's a shame, because the Yamaha is very fast on the hills of Phillip Island, so much so that Jack Miller was in the race for the podium for a good part of the race.

Fabio Quartararo first managed to pull off a blistering lap in qualifying, proof of his speed which no longer needs to be demonstrated. « I didn't expect this pole positionIt's the fastest circuit on the calendar, and I didn't expect to set such a time. It was the best moment of the weekend." he asserted for GP OneUnlike Marco Bezzecchi, the seagulls did not bother him. « I didn't pay much attention to it., but it makes leaving more difficult." he said about it.

During the Sprint, a setback quickly caused him to fall to around seventh place. This was due to his front tire, which he had chosen himself. « The team told me to put the hard tire on the front, and I had pole position with the medium.. So I preferred to use a medium, and it was a mistake, it turned out to be much too soft. It was my fault, I admit. It didn't really have any weakness, but it was like chewing gum. On a circuit where you need the front tire, I didn't have one » he added.

Obviously, seeing another Yamaha rider in front of you can't be the most pleasant, but Quartararo says it's not his fight. « Jack is very fast and I don't mind seeing him in front of me. We have to look on the bright side, because obviously the information we've gathered about the tires will be useful for tomorrow. It's clear I made a mistake, the best option was the hard tire. Sometimes we are slow and we don't understand why, but there is no secret here. » he concluded.
