MotoGP Australia Day 2, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Q2/S1) will need another lucky seagull: "Tomorrow we'll need a miracle"

Marco Bezzecchi emerged victorious in the Australian Sprint! The Italian, a clear favorite, had to bow out to Fabio Quartararo in qualifying. However, a second-place start seemed like a good omen for the man who had largely dominated the first day. During the formation lap, he collided with a seagull, which is commonplace in these latitudes. And it's clear that, as with Jorge Lorenzo in 2013 and Andrea Iannone in 2015, it brings good luck! The two drivers mentioned above, who had come into contact with a bird, both had excellent weekends.

Bezzecchi had a tough time overcoming Aprilia Trackhouse Racing rider Raul Fernandez this Saturday. And yet, he came away with a comfortable victory. « I hope the Bezzecchi-Aprilia duo gives you some thrills! I'm really happy: it was a great race, with a good start. I defended well, then Raul Fernandez and I managed to get away. He was very fast, but I didn't want to put too much strain on the tires. Unfortunately, I made a mistake at Turn 10: I wanted to prepare him well, but I went very wide. Luckily I still had decent tires, and from then on it was great » he declared for Sky Sports.

 

 

Once again, the Italian gains ground on a Pecco Bagnaia in total decline, and can now claim third place in the general classification. “We did a good job: Since the beginning of the year, we have made a lot of progress, the guys and I have really worked hard. Driving well here at Phillip Island is a pleasure: tackling these corners is an intense experience, but you can only get there if the bike is good » he continued.

 

 

The problem is that he'll have to go through the long lap twice tomorrow, after colliding with Marc Marquez in Indonesia. Can he still win with this handicap? Nothing is less certain. “For tomorrow? I would like to perform a miracle, but, by definition, it is not something that happens often. I tried the long lap twice and there are a lot of potholes. In the end, the important thing will be to bring back the maximum number of points, even with the penalty » he concluded.
