Acosta Australia

Pedro Acosta was monstrous again in Australia. The official KTM becomes, as the weekend goes by, a growing threat to Ducati's hegemony, which was also greatly shaken up on the hills of Phillip Island. Once again, he managed to take advantage of a day that could have been difficult due to the nature of the KTM RC16, which is naturally not very comfortable in long bends. And yet, he still achieved a top 3 in the Sprint, confirming his good form.

The Spaniard was of course delighted with his performance, which he came after an intense battle with Jack Miller and Fabio Di Giannantonio. « It's true that it's not the best circuit for KTM: we lack a lot of stability and it's difficult to be consistent.. But today, thanks to the pace, we turned the situation around in FP2 and even progressed. Our position in qualifying helped us a lot, because as I said yesterday in the pits: "Okay, we have a good pace, but starting from tenth place won't do us much good."So I think we can be satisfied. We are managing well, even on difficult weekends, playing to our strengths when necessary and always looking for opportunities. We don't challenge ourselves unnecessarily. We have to stay calm and keep this momentum going, because since the summer we have been in the top 5 quite regularly. Little by little, we will progress for tomorrow » he confided for DAZN.

Not everything is rosy, and he would like to have a machine capable of adapting to all types of layouts. « What would I ask of KTM? Lots and lots of things.. And even more so here. But it's true that we've made a good step forward, even if one isn't enough. I'm more relaxed. On circuits with a bit more braking, I'm not the fastest, but at least I have the consistency necessary to always be in the top 5. Besides, here, it has always been difficult for me since I came to Moto2. I've never really enjoyed a big bike on this track, and I think this is the first weekend where at least I had a good time » he added.

Acosta congratulates the riders who are actively developing the KTM RC16, including Pol Espargaro who is present at Phillip Island in place of Maverick Vinales. « Pol and Dani are doing an incredible job: look at how Pol was out there and what he did today, where he was almost faster than us. The test team is doing a good job. Now we have to get down to business, little by little, and keep improving. In the end, not everything happens overnight. We particularly suffered in the last sector. We can see that the bike is moving a lot, it lacks traction and we're not picking up speed." he concluded.
