Wind, cold, sea in the background... and Fabio Quartararo setting the record straight. The Frenchman put on a real show in qualifying for the 2025 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix, securing a legendary pole position on the legendary Phillip Island circuit, one of the most spectacular circuits in the world.
So thatAprilia was preparing to celebrate pole position de Marco Bezzecchi, Quartararo put in a final lap of textbook speed: 1'26.465, a new absolute record for the circuit. Fifth pole of the season, 21st of his MotoGP career. Yamaha breathes — and shines — thanks to its tricolor devil.
This is for a front row without Ducati: a statistical earthquake. No Desmosedici is on the front row - a first in 98 Grands Prix! Yamaha M1, the only motorcycle on the grid with a four-cylinder in-line engine (the future model will switch to V4 in 2026), dominated the Italian V4s.
Bezzecchi fails by only 31 thousandths, frustrated but incisive: “ I believed it until the end... Fabio pulled off a perfect lap. Nothing to say.. »
In third position, Jack Miller, on the Yamaha Pramac, roars the Australian crowd with a time of +0,243 s, taken after going through Q1.
The second line is also full of promise: Raul fernandez (Aprilia TrackHouse) confirms its return to the forefront. Peter Acosta (KTM Factory) continues to impress on the RC16. Alex Marquez (Ducati Gresini) crashed twice – including a violent fall in Turn 1 – but escaped without injury.
Unpredictable weather in Australia: Sunday's schedule disrupted
Behind, Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini Ducati) continues its good run after its victory in Mandalika, setting the 7th fastest time. On the same line, Pol Espargaro (KTM Tech3) and Luca marini (Honda HRC) confirm the gradual rise of the Japanese manufacturer.
Fabio DiGiannantonio (VR46 Ducati) completes the top 10, just ahead of a Pecco Bagnaia out of rhythm (+0,820 s), threatened with a penalty for having hindered Bezzecchi in the middle of a time attack.
alex rins (Yamaha Factory) follows closely, without managing to exploit the full potential of the M1.
Among the big losers we note Brad Binder (KTM Factory), only 13th and under investigation for obstructing zarco. Joan mir (Honda Factory) 14th, without solution. Johann zarco (Honda LCR) 15th, frustrated by hellish traffic. Miguel Oliveira (Pramac Yamaha) 16th, Franco Morbidelli 17th, Ai Ogura 18e.
Savadori, which fell heavily, Bastianini, Chantra et Pirro bring up the rear.
With Australian weather forecasts predicting hurricane-force winds, race management has decided to postpone all races by one hour to ensure safer conditions:
MotoGP : departure at 15:00 p.m. local time (6:00 a.m. French time)
Moto2: 13:15 p.m. local (04:15 a.m. FR).
Moto3: 12:00 p.m. local (03:00 a.m. FR).
The MotoGP warm-up will take place at 10:40 local time (1:40 FR).
Quarterly hit hard, Yamaha regains its breath, and Phillip Island delivers on its promise: speed, wind, and spectacle. The battle promises to be all-out—and the "Devil" is ready to do battle. Before you experience it, here's the table that summarizes the facts known so far.
