This Friday October 14, 2022, fabio quartararo answered questions from journalists from the Phillip Island circuit at the end of the first day of the Australian Grand Prix.
In the morning, the French driver took the gamble of not switching to a soft rear tire, which meant he did not appear in the top 10. In the afternoon, he rectified the situation nicely...
As usual, we report his words here without the slightest formatting, even if it is partially translated (vouvoiement for English, tutoiement for French).
Fabio, you have restored the situation well by switching to a soft tire in FP2, while FP1 had been more difficult…
fabio quartararo : "
The position was not good in FP1 but my feeling was pretty OK. We hadn't put new tires on but our pace was pretty OK. This afternoon was much better and we also tried various things here. I think we did a really good job this afternoon despite a mistake I made on my fast lap. But yes, I can't wait for tomorrow. »
How do you find this circuit overall?
« Good and fast. I really missed this place, especially turn three which is really special. Yes, it was really good to be back. »
How do you cope with today's conditions?
« Well, like everyone else, I think: By holding on to the bike as much as possible and trying to be very smooth. But you know, you have to be very gentle but, even when the bike shakes, you have to keep the throttle wide open, So it was very tricky, especially in turn 1, coming out of turn 2 going into 3, and in many other turns. But especially going into turn 3, it was difficult. »

What is your goal for tomorrow?
« I hope to be on the front lines and I think that's something we're able to do. We'll see how the others progress but I feel pretty confident and I feel we can manage to have a very good qualification. Tomorrow morning we have different things to try on the bike and I think that will give us a bit of direction for qualifying. »
In some corners it's very spectacular for the fans to watch…
« Yes, of course, for the fans I think it's something crazy, especially in left turns because the shoulder stays even closer to the ground. I think it's great to see a little difference between a few drivers, and anything we can do for the fans is great. »
How could you summarize all this in French?
« Yes, it was a fairly positive day, even if this morning the position doesn't really reflect our feelings. I felt pretty good this afternoon. We had a good session and we tried some small adjustments on the bike which worked, so it gives us a direction for tomorrow. So I think we can hope for a good result tomorrow, but it will be interesting to see tomorrow. »
