Enea Bastianini

Enea Bastianini may have already ruined his last hopes of being a protagonist for the world title until the final whistle in this qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix. The Gresini Ducati rider, who is 39 points behind ranking leader Fabio Quartararo, did not escape the trap of a Q1 where he was caught in the net by a surprisingly dazed Miguel Oliveira. The Portuguese received a three-place penalty plus a long lap in the race on Sunday for having hampered the Italian in his fast lap but also for trying to start a lap before the checkered flag...

In the sum of these events and their consequences on his own fate, Enea Bastianini might be furious with the official KTM. But it was rather a fatalistic “Bestia” who commented on the situation: “ it didn't go very well, we couldn't get through Q1 » he first recalls before adding about the Portuguese pilot: “ He embarrassed me, I wasted time but there's no point in getting angry. I'm fighting, so you don't need to get angry ».

Enea Bastianini: “ actually i'm very angry but i'm trying to hold back »

Car bastianini has concerns: “ when exiting turns, the bike is very strange, but we go out and get a little closer and we should be ready for the race ". He still mentions: “ actually I'm very angry but I'm trying to hold back… He tried to make a start and there was still no checkered flag, that's why the yellow flag was waved. Then he hampered me at turn 8 and I lost a tenth which cost us Q2. The tires will cause problems, they wear out very quickly, we will try to make the right choice. At the front, we have clear ideas, while at the back, we still have to choose.… We will roll up our sleeves for Sunday ».

The Italian finishes: “ I was never super fast at Phillip Island. When the tire starts to wear after two or three laps, I can't make my movements and I have a lot of trouble. I can't manage entering corners. With the hard one I was better off and we will see what solution to adopt on Sunday for the race ».
