Acosta

On paper, Pedro Acosta's fifth place in Australia may seem like a good result. But for the great competitor that he is, the reality is quite different. Indeed, the Spaniard, a regular podium contender since mid-season, was unable to hold his own against his rivals. He was nevertheless firmly established in second place for the first third of the race. but gradually lost ground and positions to bikes with more endurance than the KTM RC16, known to have problems when the tires suddenly "drop".

Acosta was quite annoyed after the Australian round. « I wouldn't call this race frustrating. But it's hard to understand why, despite careful tire management throughout the race, you get to a point where you feel like you've never mastered them. It is also difficult to understand why the four KTMs, with four riders and different riding styles, lost so much grip » we read on speedweek.

He completed the final lap more than three seconds off the best time set in the race. « Okay, on paper, Phillip Island is the toughest track for KTM, and it's also the toughest track on the calendar for me.I would understand if I had completed 27 laps flat out, but if I race at 70% of my capacity, set up the machine well and manage the tires well at the start, it is difficult to understand why I am still suffering such a drop in performance. The first drop came after nine laps, then from about the 22nd lap. I then drove with less throttle, more traction control, less power, and even more power." he added.

Acosta ended his statement with yet another "warning" to KTM. « I was convinced it could be a good dayI managed the tire pressure behind Raúl. We also used his rear tire a little less. But then I got back to the same level as the last three weeks. KTM has to take a step forward now, because dealing with this kind of thing every weekend is tiring." he concluded.
