The Suzuki rider did not have the weekend he hoped for, and leaves Phillip Island disappointed.
Alex Rins looked a little gloomy at the end of this Australian Grand Prix, and for good reason: he did not achieve the objective he had set for himself, and again finished far from the podium. However, number 42 got off to a pretty good start despite qualifying in 12th position, and quickly moved up to the front of the chasing group, who were fighting for fourth place.
Fastest driver on the third lap, the race looked promising but Rins began to feel a loss of feeling, and despite his motivation was forced to slow down to conserve his tires. Managing to stay in the top 6 in the final laps, he fell to tenth position, and was only able to overtake once to the finish line.
He therefore leaves Phillip Island with a ninth place, which is far from what he hoped for, but nevertheless retains his third place in the Championship, his other opponents having gone to the mat. “I'm a little disappointed because for several races I have had a good and regular pace, not a pace to win because Marc [Márquez] is difficult to beat but a pace for the podium, and I am not able to convert it into super result », did he declare.
“Today I have the feeling that I could have escaped with Cal [Crutchlow] but it was difficult because I started far back on the grid and I had to fight a lot. We really need to work for qualifying, being on the first two rows is crucial. The race turned into a bit of “survival”, and I just had to go for the best possible result. Anyway, I'm ready for Malaysia next week. »
