Joan Mir has suffered a serious enough ankle injury since his violent crash at the Austrian Grand Prix that he is not yet sure whether he will be able to ride his Suzuki at the next Australian Grand Prix. He will nevertheless make the trip to Phillip Island with the hope of convincing the doctors to let him find a team to which he does not want to say goodbye from his sofa... This 2022 season will definitely not remain a great memory for the 2020 World Champion.

In this regard, we can wonder if the honored people of this vintage characterized by a season developed in the urgency of the health crisis have not, since then, been cursed. Indeed, his World Champion Joan mir no longer knows the success he learned from Jerez that his team Suzuki would write off at the end of this campaign, while we know that his vice-champion Franco Morbidelli has since been unrecognizable on the Yamaha ...

Which is very real however for Joan mir, and first of all because he suffers from it, it is this injury to the ankle and to the ligaments of the right ankle since a violent fall at the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring on August 21nd last. Because of her, he first missed the Grand Prix and the tests at Misano before being forced to throw in the towel during FP3 of the meeting in Aragon, three weeks after the accident. The test pilot Takuya Tsuda at Motegi then Danilo Petrucci last weekend in Buriram were his replacements. But more than anything, the Spaniard wants to get back on track before the end of this season.

Yesterday, Wednesday October 5, Joan mir therefore underwent electromyography to check the condition of the nerves and muscles in his right ankle. The results of these latest tests are encouraging, according to Suzuki in a press release this Thursday, and this is why the Mallorcan will make a new attempt to return to competition at the Australian Grand Prix which will take place from 14 16 in October. For it to become a reality, it will be necessary that the race doctors give him the green light next Thursday by declaring him fit.

Joan Mir: “ I'm not 100% yet, but I feel like it's time to come back »

« It seems like things are getting better and I was delighted when the doctors gave me the latest news after the checks. The injury seems to be healing well and the rehabilitation work is bearing fruit ", said Mir with joy. However : " I'm not 100% yet, but I feel like it's time to come back because the situation is much better than in the last few weeks. I want to spend these last three races of the season with my team, so I hope I feel good on the bike so I can ride well ».

« Although we had good backup pilots, his absence was felt, so I'm very happy to have Joan join us for Phillip Island ", added Livio Suppo, head of the Suzuki Ecstar team. “ It will be great to see him back on his bike. We will do everything to facilitate his return so that he can enjoy one of his favorite circuits ».

Joan mir will definitely not keep good memories of this year 2022. The last time the Spaniard managed to score points was last June on the Assen circuit, a race in which he crossed the line finishing eighth. At Silverstone, an accident frustrated his aspirations and two weeks later his serious injury came to Austria, the same one that keeps him away from the circuits until now. This campaign turned to the wrong side as soon as the announcement by Suzuki of the interruption of its sports program in MotoGP and in Endurance. In the six races prior to this decision, he had scored an average of 9,33 points. In the following eleven Grands Prix, four of which were missed, the 2020 world champion averaged only 1,91 points.
