MotoGP Austria 2 Q1: Zarco passes, Rossi falls

Two drivers will continue the adventure in Q2 after Q1, but which ones?

Here we are again like last weekend at the Red Bull Ring, but this time for the Grand Prix of Styria and not of Austria. Similarities that extend to the protagonists of this Q1, which will open the doors to Q2 for two drivers. We indeed find Brad Binder, Johann Zarco, Petrucci, and Valentino Rossi as major protagonists. Lecuona, Crutchlow and Alex Espargaro will be the outsiders of the exercise which also includes Alex Marquez and Stefan Bradl, the two Repsol Honda drivers…

A week ago, Johann zarco et Valentino Rossi had done well. Will they do the same this time on the same route? Before answering this question, here is the table which summarizes the facts known so far…

Johann zarco who skipped the FP4 enters the scene without delay, followed by his teammate Discount. The first reference goes to lecuona in 1'24501 ahead Alex Espargaro.

Petrucci slams a 1'24.158 in front Brad Binder . zarco is fourth. For his part, Rossi is eighth. At the end of the first part, the Frenchman at GP19 placed second and therefore potentially in Q2…

The last five have started.

Brad Binder achieves a benchmark 1'23.932 ahead Rossi. lecuona does better for 4 thousandths. He goes out Rossi. But zarco in 1'23.609 gives the lesson. Rossi tries to answer but he falls. It will stay there. zarco et Petrucci move on to Q2,

lecuona is the first to fail, Binder is fourth and Rossi closes the top 5. It will be recalled that Johann zarco will start from the piti-lane to serve a sanction on Sunday…
