This Friday, August 13, 2021, John Zarco answered questions from journalists from the Red Bull Ring circuit, at the end of the first day of the Austrian Grand Prix.
We went to listen (via teleconferencing software) to the words of the French driver, who will undoubtedly try to reproduce his teammate's performance this weekend Jorge Martín, winner last week in Austria.
As usual, we report here the words of John Zarco without the slightest formatting.
Johann zarco : " Hello everyone, sorry for the slight delay of a few minutes. Have a good first day, especially in the first session. I knew the conditions were good and I asked the team to prepare a new tire at the end of the session to attack the time because I would say we were already hot after last week. With what I was able to learn and the changes we wanted to make, I thought and believed that in any case we could do some good things in the first session. I'm very happy that this strategy worked well, and like I said, I had everything in hand to do it and it was good to do this lap record, just gaining more confidence. I'm still not doing 100% what I would like and what I can see in my teammate who had a fantastic race, and to do that again maybe I need to do more laps. But I think I kind of went in that direction and I'm glad it's already paid off. I wanted to be quick in the morning, thinking it might be too hot in the afternoon, but even less comfortable than the heat, we had rain and even hail. It's a good day but I can't be too happy because it's just Friday. But having that confidence to prepare is a good thing. »
Are the differences compared to last week more due to settings or mentality?
« Both ! I wanted to change mentally to have that confidence to push past certain boundaries that I had built up in my head. But clearly, I think it's not yet perfect, because sometimes I still have to push a little too hard. But at the same time, we made two modifications to the bike… (editor’s note: inaudible communication). »
You said that you took a bit of an example from Jorge Martin. Are you talking about the settings or the driving style?
Cela m’a donné
Cela m’a
So you are pushing your limits?
« Yes ! Even in my fast lap I took a corner where I wasn't sure it would go through, but I broke the lap record, so maybe that was the limit in MotoGP. »
Sixth at the Styrian Grand Prix and lap record today: Is your main ability to bounce back?
