Francesco Bagnaia beat all his opponents to the finish line in Spielberg to win the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich at the Red Bull Ring. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) finished second after a remarkable overtake at the new chicane on third-placed Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team).

In the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) dominated Race 1 on Saturday and repeated his performance in Race 2 on Sunday.

With the new Turn 2 chicane having been used for the first time, the circuit, race lap and race duration records were set this weekend.

In MotoGP, 18 riders opted for the Hard front, five for the Soft and two for the Medium from the MICHELIN Power Slicks range. At the rear, the Medium was chosen by 18 pilots, the others having chosen the Soft.

MotoGP Free Practice 1 began on Friday in wet conditions and all the riders were wearing MICHELIN Power Rain. But as the line dried up, they switched to slicks around 15 minutes from the checkered flag – led by Marco Bezzechi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) – and the times improved. The uncertain weather forecast for the weekend caused a bit of panic in the pit lane as the teams tried to make the most of the running time on the MICHELIN Power Slicks to set fast times in order to reach Q2 in case of rain on the following sessions.

Fortunately, the track was dry for Free Practice 2 (FP2) and the drivers went into attack mode at the end of the session. Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) set the best lap in 1min29 in MICHELIN Power Slicks Soft front and rear.

The weather was also good on Saturday and the times improved further in FP3 while the drivers battled for Q2. Zarco distinguished himself again by setting the circuit record in 1min28, he was then the only one under the 964min1s mark. In Qualifying, the fight for pole position was of rare intensity and the pace increased a notch. Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP) took his first MotoGP pole position in 29min1, improving the circuit record previously set by his Ducati teammate Johann Zarco.

At the end of the Grand Prix, Piero Taramasso, Michelin Motorsport Two-Wheel Manager, commented: “ Despite the uncertain weather forecast, the weekend was relatively dry, giving riders time to work on their machine setups over the weekend. This also allowed us to see that our slicks worked very well on this new track and I am very satisfied with it. The times were very close, with less than 9/10e second between the top 19 in FP2. »

« There was a lot of uncertainty about the conditions for the race, with the risk of rain. But the track remained dry. Our slicks were then able to express their performance, highlighted by the fact that all three specifications of the front tire were used, and two for the rear. At the end of the race, the front Soft and Hard finished on the podium, so they both had the potential to win. »
