MotoGP is on the rise and its success is demonstrated by the multiplication of applications for the organization of a Grand Prix. A craze which highlights the fact that Spain, alone, has four meetings in a calendar which cannot be ductile. We will therefore have to make choices. Will Dorna, the organizer, sacrifice his compatriots? The boss Carmelo Ezpeleta answers…

« Currently, there is a list of around eight countries that would like to organize a MotoGP Grand Prix. But we can't have a 26-race calendar ", said Carmelo Ezpeleta in 'The Breakfast of Europa Press'. Of the eight countries mentioned by Dorna's CEO, five have already been identified: Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Finland, Portugal and Mexico. They made their demands public. Finland and Indonesia are already confirmed among this club of five.

Regarding Indonesia, Carmelo Ezpeleta announced that the Indonesian circuit would not be permanent. The paddock will be covered to allow racing and, the next day, after the Grand Prix, tourists will be able to walk there. Likewise, when competitions do not take place there, parts of the circuit, mainly the straight line, will be used for traffic.

Certainly, but what about the four Spanish meetings? To listen to Dorna's boss, none would be crossed out. But everyone would have their turn in a rotation system from one year to the next. This would be a possibility, considered the most reasonable, given that Spain is the only country to organize more than two races, exactly four. But there will be conditions: “ Spanish circuits will have to adapt to our needs. They have to be safe circuits, they have to be popular with the public and they have to be interesting for the manufacturers, and all four are, no one has ever complained about them. Until 2021 they will continue, from there we will see ».

The debate is therefore launched. Like that of a change in the start time of the Qatar Grand Prix which will launch the 2019 season on March 10: “ we will examine this possibility. We will surely make a decision. We'll have to see how the days go next week. If it is possible to do the race in better safety conditions, there will be no need to hesitate, because it is quite dangerous “, said the general manager of Dorna.

Jorge Lorenzo, who had fallen at the end of the test at Losail, and who had sounded the alarm about the state of the track at the times when the Grand Prix would be scheduled, was therefore heard.
