Carmelo Ezpeleta revealed the four scenarios he is considering for this year 2020 from which he hopes to make a season. A necessary competition for the survival of its paddock, so much so that it is better to speak of three options and one calamity, since the last script would be synonymous with a white season. And therefore a black hole for all those involved in motorcycle racing. Among them, there is the WSBK whose perspectives have not been developed by the boss of Dorna. But one thing is certain: it will not share the circuit with MotoGP, and here is why…

Dorna not only manages the World Championship MotoGP, but it is also responsible for WSBK and the FIM CEV. And in this crisis which has destroyed certainties and torn up all the calendars, she is working on their subjects, in addition to the major category of the Grands Prix.

With time running out quickly and venues likely to host a competition becoming scarce, an idea was floated that one circuit could be used to compete in both major championships at the same time. But Carmelo Ezpeleta categorically ruled out this possibility.

« MotoGP and WSBK will in no way participate on the same circuit. It doesn't help us to bring them together on the same weekend because they have different sponsors, with different investors... The WSBK will have its own calendar and the FIM CEV another. I understand that the latter will be easier to do because almost everything is developed in Spain. »

What was also on the table was the possibility that only MotoGP would be represented. “ This has been discussed with manufacturers, and some like Honda and KTM are in different categories. The scenario was therefore excluded. If they allow us to race, we would do it with all three categories while minimizing personnel. Additionally, our biggest revenue comes from television, and we need to present a show that has a certain length ", concluded Ezpeleta in an interview on “Radioestadio del Motor”.

We recall the hypotheses put on the table for this 2020 season :

Hypothesis 1: we open the season in August and we roll out the planned schedule.

Hypothesis 2: 10 Grands Prix, 5 in Europe, 5 outside Europe, from September to December 13.

Hypothesis 3: 10 Grands Prix on one, two or three specific circuits where the paddock would be confined.

Hypothesis 4: the pure and simple cancellation of the season, which would also have consequences for the years to follow...
