Unexpected hero of this day, Enea Bastianini gave his all for his third place in the MotoGP world championship in Barcelona. During this final, in which his teammate Pecco Bagnaia was playing for the world title, he indirectly helped him by coming between him and Jorge Martin, still 19 points ahead in the general classification. Bastianini, very fast and aggressive, did not hesitate to attack Martin in turn 5 on the last lap to grab this unexpected result.

While we know Bastianini struggles in the early laps, especially when he starts from far back, the Italian shone in the first moments, taking a holeshot from eighth place on the grid! « I didn't expect it because it's a track on which I've always suffered.. I think it was the best start of my career. I never started so well, then I arrived in the first corner with determination. I knew I could get in quickly." he confided in the columns of GP One.

He has long crossed swords with Jorge Martin and there was reason to be concerned seeing how it almost ended at Misano. “We are all 100%, even those who play for a world title. We both made some passes close to the limit, but the only one I went off track for was his at Turn 1. At this stage of the competition, it is the overtaking that must be done.. Let's see if I can repeat it." he continued, knowing full well that it would be difficult for him to respond to this outburst.

The world title is now almost a given for Jorge Martin, but doubts remain. If it remains an individual sport, Enea Bastianini has nevertheless indirectly helped Bagnaia. « Before thinking about a gift for Pecco, I said to myself: "Give yourself a gift!" We don't think much. For the title, it's decided at 80%, but we still have to try. However, I think they will both have a good race. Jorge also makes mistakes but it's unlikely he'll make one now. » he concluded.
