The KTM rider got too impatient behind Danilo Petrucci from whom he was unable to break away in the race and made a mistake.

Author of a good weekend on his land, in Catalonia, Pol Espargaro was unable to control his annoyance during the race and paid for it with a blank result, his third of the season.

However, the KTM rider once again proved to be the best representative of the Austrian brand and qualified in seventh position after very good free practice. But his race stopped 12 laps from the finish.

“I am clearly disappointed”, he told Motosan.es. “Today the race didn't go like in Brno or Spielberg, where we fought for excellent results after the two crashes. Today it wouldn't have been better than seventh or eighth place. »

“I paid for my frustration. I fought against Petrucci for several laps and I was faster, but we kept overtaking each other. It almost always passed me on the left turns because there I couldn't attack with the medium front tire. Then I arrived with a lot of speed at the end of the straight, I widened and lost the front when he was behind me. It's totally my fault. I should have relaxed a little at that point. I was too excited by the time I had lost with Petrux, I wanted to get rid of him and follow Rins… Another race where we lost a good six, seven or eight points. We will pay for these mistakes at the end of the year because in the championship all the drivers are together. »

The Spanish driver will, however, have a chance to recover in two weeks in France, on a circuit which has often been successful for him: “I like Le Mans, I'm generally fast there. We have to start from scratch and find positive vibes. »
