MotoGP is entering a new era: the 2027-2031 agreement is signed, and the rider market can finally explode. For over a year, negotiations were tense. Very tense. So much so that some paddock leaders feared the discussions would become bogged down indefinitely. But this time, it's done.
The MotoGP manufacturers and MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (MGPSEG) have reached an agreement that will define the future of the championship between 2027 and 2031, with an option to extend until 2036.
A decision that might seem administrative. In reality, it is crucial because the battle pitted the builders against EzpeletaSince the arrival of Liberty Media In the MotoGP world, manufacturers closely observe what is happening in Formula 1. And comparisons are inevitable. In F1, teams receive a share of the revenue generated by the championship.
This is a logic that several MotoGP manufacturers wanted to see applied to Grand Prix racing. Honda, Ducati, Yamaha, Aprilia et KTMThey all felt they should benefit more from the commercial growth of the championship.
More Carmelo Ezpeleta and his son Carlos have drawn a red line. There's no question of completely replicating the economic model of the Formula 1.

An eight million euro compromise in MotoGP
According to MotorsportThe solution found is therefore an intermediate one. Instead of a variable percentage of the championship revenue, the manufacturers and teams will receive a fixed annual sum estimated at around eight million euros.
A significant sum. But above all, predictable. This compromise allows Liberty Medium and for MGPSEG to retain overall economic control of the championship while offering manufacturers greater financial guarantees. No one gets exactly what they wanted. But everyone gets enough to move forward.
The most important factor, however, is not financial. For several months, a large part of the driver market had been frozen. Manufacturers were waiting to know the precise rules of the game before finalizing their long-term investments.
Now that the agreement is finalized, the announcements can begin. And they promise to be spectacular. In the paddock, several moves are already considered virtually complete.
Marc Marquez should extend his contract with Ducati. Peter Acosta would be promoted to the official Ducati team. fabio quartararo would join Honda. George Martin would take over the management of Yamaha. Francis Bagnaia would become the new pilot of the Aprilia project alongside Marco BezzecchiAt KTM, they are waiting. Alex Marquez et Fabio Di Giannantonio on factory machines. In other words: virtually all major manufacturers could modify their structure.
This agreement also reveals the priorities of the new owners Liberty MediumThe main objective is not only sporting. It is commercial. The teams will now need to strengthen their communication, media presence and marketing activities..
In other words, MotoGP is gradually moving closer to the entertainment model that allowed Formula 1 to explode onto the global scene. Without losing its identity. At least for now.
This signing is probably more important than some Grand Prix. It doesn't produce spectacular images. It doesn't win championships. But it establishes the economic rules that will shape MotoGP for the next decade. And above all, it puts an end to the uncertainty.
From now on, the real saga can begin. The one about the rider market. And it could be the most explosive in the recent history of MotoGP.
