Marc Marquez Alberto Puig Honda

The press release released by Marc Márquez's team last week had generated a lot of suspicion and had not really convinced anyone.

Unfortunately, one of the hypotheses raised in the paddock is confirmed today: The Spanish driver suffers from the same illness that affected him in 2011, namely a splitting of vision.

After undergoing a medical examination at the Dexeus clinic in Barcelona last Tuesday, during which he was examined after a fall during off-road training, Marc Márquez rested all week at his home in Cervera.

During these days of rest, Marc Márquez continued to feel unwell and suffered from vision problems, so this Monday he received a visit from the ophthalmologist Dr. Sánchez Dalmau of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, who examined him and carried out the tests, which detected a new episode of diplopia.

Marc Márquez : " These are difficult times, it seems that when it rains, it pours. After consulting Dr. Sánchez Dalmau, a new episode of diplopia (double vision) was confirmed, as in 2011. We need patience but if I have learned one thing, it is to face adversity with positivity. Thank you for your support ! »

Doctor Sanchez Dalmau, Ophthalmologist: “ The examination carried out today on Marc Márquez after his accident confirmed that the pilot has diplopia and revealed a paralysis of the fourth right nerve with involvement of the right superior oblique muscle. Conservative treatment with periodic updates was chosen to monitor clinical evolution. This fourth right nerve is the one that had already been damaged in 2011. »

As a result, the Repsol Honda team driver will not participate in the Valencia Grand Prix next weekend, nor in the IRTA test in Jerez scheduled for November 18 and 19.

In 2011, in an accident in Malaysia, he had to miss the last two races because of the same problem while he was fighting for the Moto2 title against  Stefan bradl. He then took advantage of the winter break to undergo an operation by the same Dr. Sánchez Dalmau to correct the muscle paralysis that was preventing the proper functioning of his right eye. Although not completely recovered at 100%, he started the 2012 season as best he could, before winning the intermediate category title.

All our support goes to the Spanish champion who is accumulating hard blows and, for the moment, showing exemplary courage and determination!
