Davide Brivio is the man on the ground for the Suzuki MotoGP project. A smooth adventure until 2016. At the end of this season, the GSX-RR was on the rise. The Viñales – Aleix Espargaró duo worked wonders while behind the scenes a certain Johann Zarco was put to the test. But for 2017, the casting chosen by the same Brivio was completely revised. Viñales left for Yamaha, the Italian did not take the trouble to preserve his second rider who, disappointed, signed for Aprilia, while Rins, for his youth, was preferred to double World Champion Zarco. Iannone, designated first pilot, completed the succession of bad choices. Today, everything has to be done again at Suzuki, but with the same Brivio who has a word about Johann Zarco...
This could be called a great missed opportunity. His first laps in MotoGP, Johann zarco did them on a Suzuki. However, it was on a Yamaha Tech3 that he revealed himself last season. On this subject, the one who originated it, Davide Brivio, declares on speedweek : “He was very quick. I was surprised by its regularity and also by its speed. But we suspected it a little because we already knew him.”
“Zarco tested the Suzuki during the summer of 2016 in Japan. He had already ridden our motorcycle. At that moment, we knew it was a good one. However, he surprised me with this solid season. He led the first race before falling. But it was a great achievement. I congratulate him and I am convinced that he will be one of the best drivers in the future.”
Admitted fault is therefore half forgiven for a Brivio which makes amends while 2018 will experience a turbulent transfer market. Everyone will have to renegotiate their contract, Iannone and Zarco included…
