Qualifying on the front row, Fabio Quartararo managed to stay with the leading group to finish in the top 5 in Brno.
fabio quartararo returned to the front row in qualifying for the Czech Republic GP, after four pole positions at Jerez, Le Mans, Silverstone and Assen, and his third place at Losail. He qualified third again in Brno but did not know how the Yamaha would behave during the sprint race.
Since the start of the season, the Frenchman's good qualifying performances have not always been rewarded, and the M1 has often suffered from tire degradation during the race. This time, Quarterly managed to stay at the front, maintaining his third position at the start, before being overtaken by Pedro Acosta on the second lap, then by Enea Bastianini on the fourth.
Then fifth, he overtook Francesco Bagnaia, who was struggling with his front tire, but was eventually overtaken by Marco Bezzecchi two laps from the finish. The #20 thus finished in the top five. A good result that didn't completely satisfy him, but which reflected his performance today.
"We always want more, but I think we did the best we could with what we had. It was a very difficult race. We need to look at the points, but we know exactly where we need to improve, so we're working on it.", he declared at the microphone of Canal +.
"As in every sprint race, you can see the tire wearing down a lot, and on this track where there's a lot of grip, you know you could have done well, but there was a drop in grip between the morning and the afternoon. We clearly had no feeling on the rear going into corners. I was completely on eggshells and I was still surprised by my times given the conditions we had. It definitely wasn't the ideal race."
Quarterly doesn't really know what to expect for tomorrow's longer race and hopes to be able to fight for the same positions. "In the last few laps we weren't really on the pace. It's true that we were struggling a bit more. I think tomorrow we'll have to see how the front and rear tires deteriorate, and see what we can do for the race.", he concluded.
