Qualified 14th and finished 13th in the Grand Prix Sprint MotoGP from the Czech Republic on the Brno circuit, fabio quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team) struggles to define the limits of his Yamaha YZR-M1 V4 and decided to give it his all in the long race: he crashed on the second lap, but has no regrets…

Fabio Quartararo: "Well, my debriefing will be very short.
I mean, yesterday we saw that at the start of the race I wasn't braking enough. So my comment was that the feeling wasn't great, and this morning we simply decided that I needed to brake later at the beginning of the race.
So the feeling wasn't really there. I made a few overtakes on the limit, because I overtook Brad, Maverick and Luca, but only for a lap and a half.
You know, my comments are very clear and I try my best, but today I simply wanted to enjoy myself, try to push to the limit, as I like to drive, but unfortunately, at the moment, we are not able to do that.
🎤 You were twelfth when you crashed. Were the overtakes made at the start?
"No, no, not really. My start wasn't very good, I lost positions at the start, my front device stayed engaged, so I unlocked it at turn 3.
And the overtaking wasn't really done at the beginning, so that was good.
🎤 That's pretty much the whole problem with your motorcycle, isn't it? You can only ride it for a certain amount of time during the race…
"Yes, exactly."
🎤 It's just like in qualifying…
"Yes, exactly. But even in qualifying, in the end, we're one second behind."
I'm just trying to give my best performance. To be honest, I just wanted to attack. But if you really want to push, this is what happens.
I prefer to do this rather than stay behind the others, riding a second and a half slower.
🎤 Did you feel more like "Fabio" this weekend, after Mugello and Balaton? Many people online, because you admitted you might not be pushing that extra bit, think you're not taking any extra risks… We got the impression that you did this weekend, at least in Q1, and again today…
“Yes, but the problem is that last year I knew what I was doing. I knew where the limit was, I knew where I could attack.”
But this year, I'm lost regarding the bike's potential. Of course, the potential isn't there, but even when there's no potential, there's a limit.
And you never really feel that limit. The feeling of anticipation you should have when you reach the limit at the last moment, it's not there.
There's no traction, no turning ability, no power on the climbs. With Luca in the first lap, we couldn't keep up.
And even when you had to overtake Luca, it was a suicidal move for twelfth place. You know, there are a lot of things.
But that will be my mentality from now on: I don't know what will happen, but at least when I feel really good… well, really good… like I felt today, I'll try to push, and that's all there is to it.
🎤 You weren't hurt…
"No, that's the main objective."
🎤 Are you going home tonight or are you staying for tomorrow to watch the tests?
"No, no, no. I'm going home. I'm going home tonight."
That's the most important thing: spending some time with my family now. More than driving.
