Gresini teammates Alex Marquez and Fermín Aldeguer were both penalized for irresponsible maneuvers in Brno.
After a solid first half of the season, the Gresini team will begin the summer break on a bitter note, as both of its drivers were penalized following the Czech Grand Prix. One of the penalties was predictable, the other was more surprising, as the incident was not shown on screen.
The expected penalty concerned Alex Marquez. Struggling since the start of the weekend, the number 2 in the championship had achieved his worst qualifying of the season, without it being catastrophic. Eighth on the grid, he could still have hoped to achieve two good races, but both were complicated.
Victim of a big skid at the start of the sprint race yesterday, he tumbled to the bottom of the standings and never recovered, finishing in 17th place. In today's main race, he made a good start, gaining a position, but saw his race come to an abrupt end on the second lap. The #73 missed his braking point as he was about to overtake Joan Mir, lost the front end and mowed him down.

The two men immediately got up, but Race Direction announced that they were investigating the incident and the sanction was imposed after the finish. Alex Marquez received a Long Lap for causing the Honda rider's crash. He will have to perform it at the next Grand Prix, on Sunday in Austria after the summer break.
For its part, Fermín Aldeguer was given a three-second penalty at the finish and dropped down the standings from eighth to eleventh place. The cause was a move deemed irresponsible on Miguel Oliveira on the sixth lap. While the Portuguese driver didn't crash, he lost five places and ended up 18th.
