At the end of each Grand Prix day, in Brno as everywhere else, Michelin releases its technical notes concerning the more or less perfect osmosis between the track and the tires MotoGP which it provides to all competitors in the premier category.

In this respect, the recently resurfaced Czech circuit seems to offer exceptional grip, both in the wet and dry, although so far only the end of FP1 has been an opportunity to switch to slicks.

So here are the Friday Michelin technical notes, stated by Piero Taramasso, Two-wheel Manager at Michelin Motorsport.

“Brno, first day. A rather strange day due to the weather, which was constantly changingThis morning we started in mixed conditions and finished dry, but only one line was drying. This afternoon we started in very, very wet conditions, then it turned to drying again. So the track was changing all the time. The temperature stayed around 20°C.

Most of the time, the drivers used a combination of wet tires, medium at the front and soft at the rear. This choice gave them good stability at the front and good grip at the rear. Of course, when the track started to dry, this combination began to overheat a little, causing sliding. Some drivers then opted for a medium wet tire at the rear, which was better in these conditions.

At the end of the morning, they were able to do a few laps on slick tires, soft at the front and medium at the rear. Marc was already very close to the lap record. This is also due to the condition of the track: the resurfacing is recent, the surface seems quite smooth and the grip level is good.

But we will check this tomorrow in dry conditions, I hope, and also on Sunday, since the weather forecast is for dry weather.

And what tires will the drivers have? They will have three rear tires: a soft, a medium and a hard one, the latter being reserved in case tire temperatures become really too high. Same for the front: soft and medium as main choice, with a hard one available only if the track temperature exceeds 55°C »
