Cal Crutchlow has been a happy man since last weekend. Last Sunday, he took his third career victory in MotoGP. A hard-fought success in Argentina, the second event of the 2018 season. An achievement which allows him to lead the championship, a first for a Briton since Barry Sheene. But the LCR driver does better since he plays in a satellite team. And it has never been seen since Sete Gibernau in 2004. But before getting there, the Englishman bluffed his direct opponents by showing them a bad trajectory...

Cal Crutchlow still enjoys it and he explains on crash.net his strategy on the Termas de Rio Hondo track to cross the finish line of the Argentine Grand Prix as a winner: “ it was difficult and the track was particularly very delicate in the penultimate bend. I passed it on a trickle of gas rather on the brakes because in the event of a blockage, you were directly on the ground. I lost time on the leading group which I then caught up with, and it was of no consequence because my closest pursuer was eleven seconds behind ».

« I consciously didn't take the right line and my opponents saw it. Rins imitated me and he went too far... But when it came to winning, I definitely took the right trajectory to deliver the final blow. And that's how with the Honda I completed Zarco's Yamaha ».

A discernment that opened the doors to victory for him. But also given control of the championship. Crutchlow would he be a serious candidate for the crown? “ Hard to say, but if I didn't believe it, there would be no point in me being here. It will be very complicated, the chances are very slim. Yes, I am lucky to be supported by Honda, but an independent team does not have the same resources. A satellite team is made up of around thirty people, while an official team has around 90! And then we have to see what will happen once we return to Europe because generally it is at this precise moment that the teams receive developments ».

He finishes : " the season promises to be long and the competition is strong. For me, ten drivers can be in the running in the race, so the key will really be consistency. I will try to appear on the podium as much as possible or, failing that, to score points in each event in order to arrive in a good position in Valencia. One thing is certain, you will have to remain calm ».
