The English pilot Cal Crutchlow, born in Coventry on October 29, 1985, has always been marginal compared to his colleagues and opponents. Before being rewarded in his country for having been “ the first Briton to win a Grand Prix in the premier class since Barry Sheene in 1981", Crutchlow gradually rose to prominence by winning the British Supersport Championship in 2006, then the World Supersport Championship in 2009 on a Yamaha R6.

He then joined the ranks of the Tech 3 team with whom he reached the podium six times between 2011 and 2013, with teammate Andrea Dovizioso. Cal then spent a year with Ducati as part of the official team, with only one podium in 2014 (third in Aragón). He subsequently found his happiness and a certain stability at Lucio Cecchinello from 2015. Then on Honda, he won at Brno and Phillip Island in 2016, then in Argentina in 2018.

Crutchlow's best position in the final standings of a MotoGP World Championship is seventh, achieved in 2016 and 2018. He has been on the podium 19 times and achieved four pole positions, always in the MotoGP category, since he did not has never raced in Moto3 or Moto2 (Assen and Brno in 2013 on Yamaha Tech 3, Silverstone in 2016 and Jerez in 2018 on Honda LCR).

Cal married Lucy Heron – the former GP driver's niece – in July 2014. Tom Heron – and they had the joy of welcoming their daughter Willow on August 2, 2016.

How are Cal and his little family doing in the current circumstances?

“Everyone is in the same boat when it comes to racing. Above all, I think it is very important that the whole world comes back stronger after this virus and this situation,” Crutchlow told GPOne.com.

“We all want to race, we know that the teams, the FIM and Dorna are doing their best to start the season and resume racing, but we will have to do it when possible. »

“We appreciate all the work people do behind the scenes in motorcycle racing, but motorcycling is only a small part of the world at the moment. »

“This is our world, but people all over the world do everything for us – doctors, nurses, scientists and governments – and we should appreciate everything they do for us. »

“We will have to see later in the year to make decisions from them and their advice. Hopefully we can race this year at some point, the sooner the better. »

Regarding his own career, Cal explained that “ I have been very happy over the last few years with Honda and the LCR team, and of course we already started discussions for the future at the beginning of the year when the tests took place. »

“I need to talk to them more in the coming months, hoping to ride for them in 2021. There's no reason I can't or shouldn't, and I hope that happens. »
