The presence of advisors to the best drivers in the world is now very common. These are generally former pilots who know the job perfectly. Thus Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and many other MotoGP riders rely on the help of a coach. But Team LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow doesn't feel the need for it for himself.

Valentino Rossi is assisted by Luca Cadalora, for Jorge Lorenzo it's Alex Debon, and Dani Pedrosa works with Sete Gibernau. Many other MotoGP riders like Xavier Siméon, who can count on Ruben Xaus, emphasize how useful their trainer's observations are on the circuits.

Cal Crutchlow is one of the few MotoGP riders without a coach. “ I have my wife for that", laughs Crutchlow. “If I have to be faster, then she will decide that I can do it and then I should go faster. »

“I know how to ride a MotoGP bike. Marc [Márquez] the fastest rider in the world, rides the same bike as me, so if I want to learn something or do something different, then I watch him. »

The reigning World Champion Marc Márquez is advised by his manager Emilio Alzamora who observes him from the side of the track, himself titled in the 125 cm3 category in 1999 on a Honda from the Via Digital team. “ There are things I can do like Marc, not others, believes Crutchlow. But it is not an exact science as a whole.

“If someone tells me that another driver is faster through a corner than me, that doesn't really help me. I'm not saying I'll never have a coach, but I don't think it would make me any faster.

“Some guys just need an ego stroke. The same goes for their coaches. I don't think they have any particular advantage », concludes the Briton.
