It was no longer really hoped for, but it is now certain: the 2020 MotoGP calendar, which will be made official in the coming hours, will not include the fast Mugello track on its list. The Italian Grand Prix will therefore not take place, but the peninsula should still console itself with two meetings in Misano…

The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports regret to announce the cancellation of the Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley. Previously postponed, the ongoing coronavirus epidemic and the resulting calendar changes unfortunately force the cancellation of the event.

The spectacular Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello never fails to deliver incredible racing, and always in front of one of the most passionate and vibrant crowds of the season. The track hosted its first MotoGP event in 1976 and it became a permanent fixture on the calendar in 1991, making 2020 the first time in almost 30 years that the Tuscan track will not host a Grand Prix.

Paolo Poli, PDG du circuit du Mugello a commenté : « despite the common effort to find a practical solution, the impossibility of organizing an event open to spectators, as well as the difficulties linked to this exceptional situation, did not allow us to find a new date for the Italian Grand Prix .

« Je voudrais remercier tous nos fans qui nous ont soutenus et encouragés pendant ces mois, et les inviter à revenir au Mugello en 2021 pour ce qui sera, comme toujours, l’un des événements les plus emblématiques de la saison"

« L’un des plus beaux circuits du monde »

Carmelo Ezpeleta, PDG de Dorna Sports termine ainsi : « It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of Mugello. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a solution to the logistical and operational issues resulting from the pandemic and the rearrangement of the schedule to allow us to visit the venue this season. It is a great loss because Mugello is one of the most beautiful circuits in the world and we are very proud to host the Italian Grand Prix there.

« Au nom de Dorna, je tiens à remercier les fans pour la compréhension et la patience dont ils ont fait preuve en attendant que la situation s’améliore. Nous sommes très impatients de retourner au Mugello la saison prochaine pour un autre week-end de course époustouflant"
