This 2022 MotoGP season will remain in the history of the discipline but also in the minds of the protagonists with, in particular, this idea that nothing can stop Ducati. Never, in fact, had a driver come back from 91 points behind with seven races to go, as no World Champion until then had been able to be crowned after five retirements in the competition. Fabio Quartararo, who held the lead for a long time and who seemed to have done the hard part halfway through, explained his path like Pecco Bagnaia, who made the comeback the impossible, his own. Carlo Pernat, columnist and manager, summarizes.

The dominance of Ducati and the constancy of Pecco Bagnaia were so strong in the second part of the 2022 MotoGP season that it is difficult to remember the scenario of the first. And for good reason: until the summer break, everything already seemed lost for the red tunics and Pecco Bagnaia had to prepare himself to accept for a lifetime a resounding failure which could also turn his career upside down.

Here we are at the end of this campaign and if indeed the Piedmontese's career has changed, it is definitely on the positive side. As for Ducati, we celebrated the triple crown, those of the manufacturers and the teams joining the halo illuminating the drivers. And yet, it's good fabio quartararo with her Yamaha who dominated most of the year. In an analysis relayed by motorcyclesports Charles Pernat confirmed that this championship took place in two distinct stages.

« In my opinion, the 2022 world championship had two parts » said the managerEnea Bastianini and Tony Arbolino. “ The first half was led by Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha. A first part in which Ducati suffered a lot. At least with the official motorcycles, especially during the first four races, because 2022 updates didn't work. In particular the leveling device at the front, which caused problems. In fact, Bagnaia did not score many points in the first Grands Prix ».

Carlo Pernat: “ halfway through the championship, everything seemed decidedé "

While the season seemed well underway for Quarterly, Ducati has taken matters into its own hands. Feathered even speaks of a “ explosion » of the manufacturer in Borgo Panigale while Quarterly entered a negative spiral after the Dutch Grand Prix: “ Halfway through the championship, everything seemed decided, with Fabio leading Pecco by 91 points. But then there was a second part of the championship during which Ducati exploded, in a good sense of the word ».

He adds : " It’s a motorcycle that now works everywhere. It was Bagnaia's apotheosis with a fast Ducati, and pressure was also put on Quartararo, who put the blame on himself. When you are 91 points ahead… It all started with this accident in Assen. Something got out of control, followed by a sequence of zeros or bad results ».

It will be recalled that if, for many, Assen was indeed a turning point and firstly because a penalty then followed for the following round at Silverstone, the Frenchman rather estimates the turnaround time at Misano, where he found that with an M1 in top form, he could only achieve, at best, a fifth place.
