Carmelo Ezpeleta

By considering a 2022 MotoGP season made up of 21 Grands Prix, Carmelo Ezpeleta, boss of the promoter Dorna, can assess the long and great road traveled in recent years. The time when it was necessary to populate the CRT grid for a board with glaring differences in values is over. Today, everyone seems to be able to win on Sunday, we fight by thousandths and rather than appearing as the one who asks, we are in the position of the one who manages the offer. However, you have to be vigilant, because there can be tense epilogues which can spoil a previously exciting season...

And it is this outcome that haunts the nights of a Carmelo Ezpeleta impeccable work with a team that can deserve the same compliment. In an interview with Trademarks, the boss of Dorna says that nothing is ever acquired. And to make himself understood, he takes as a reference the last finale experienced in Formula 1, which still continues to flow ink and saliva: “ I would not like to have a MotoGP final like that of F1 last year » assures Carmelo. “ I would have liked there to be two drivers fighting for the title in the last race, but the way it all played out... Neither for nor against anything. It was a fantastic championship, contested throughout the year and, ultimately, which caused controversies which are not good ».

Carmelo Ezpeleta remembers 2015: “ everyone was very happy from the point of view of the media impact«

The Spaniard adds: “ I like to have a championship, if possible, until the very contested end, but I don't like that after the end there is doubt, that the second no longer speaks. I certainly don't dream of it ". And even less so since, in fact, MotoGP has already had a failed finale. Ezpeleta recognizes him “ I didn't dream more, even if everyone was very happy from the point of view of the media impact, the 2015 mess between Rossi and Márquez. I don't dream of these things ».

On the other hand, he notes what he has built with his troops and the players in the paddock: “ MotoGP is better than it has ever been. This is the premier motorcycle category. What I am most proud of, and even more after 2020 and 2021, it is the union between all stakeholders, with different interests, with private and industrial competitors. They want a piece of the pie, but they have understood that the general benefit of the championship requires doing different things. The consensus that we have had for around 10-15 years to move things forward, which brings together a wide diversity of opinions, is what makes me most proud ».

He ends with the feeling that a MotoGP gives him which will have the ambition in 2022 to achieve its longest season in history: “ it's the talent of each driver that makes the difference, that's what we like. We are proud to have six brands, but also 24 drivers ". And all these beautiful people took up the necklace in the Malaysian torpor of Sepang for important tests.
