Casey Stoner brought his voice to the concert of veterans who pass judgment on the MotoGP season which has just ended. An astonishing year, with nine winners in 14 races contested on European soil at a breakneck pace and according to a new format imposed by the pandemic. A competition which crowned the new generation in the person of Joan Mir who showed all the benefits of regularity on the handlebars of a Suzuki optimizing simple technical recipes. But the show also took place without Marc Marquez, whose injury, which still worries him, forced him to withdraw. Casey Stoner adds all these elements together to deliver his conclusion. And it's not going to please everyone...

Casey Stoner will have been a meteorite in the world of Grands Prix by showing a disarming natural talent on a motorcycle, to the point of winning two MotoGP titles with two different brands. The Australian also has fragile health and a particular character which were not for nothing in his decision to retire, at only 27 years old.

He was a test pilot Ducati et Honda, tried to come back for a freeride, but he would have been blocked by Marc Marquez who succeeded him at Repsol Honda. A fact mentioned by Stoner, but which has never been demonstrated. That being said, the same Stoner, today, uses the identical Marquez in a demonstration which wants to convince us of a level of the plateau seriously revised downwards without him.

Because the evaluation of this season by Casey Stoner will not please many people on the current starting grid... The double World Champion thus declared in an interview with El Mundo, by evoking the journeys of Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Vinales et Andrea Dovizioso : “ they got lost. I wonder if today's pilots work hard or not. There are pilots who have made unforgivable mistakes and, despite this, continued to smile. They seem more attentive to Instagram than to the runway ».

Casey Stoner: “Marc Marquez is so superior that he ridicules them all”

The introduction is direct. The sequel also, which concerns Marc Marquez : " if he had waited without forcing his return, he would have managed to win the title even while running from mid-season. He is so superior that he ridicules everyone. We saw it in Jerez, before the crash ».

However, in expressing his opinion on the new title Joan mir, Casey is lenient: “ he is the one who worked the most and who showed the most consistency. He's not the most talented, but he won deservedly ».

The Australian ends with a general consideration about the MotoGP, a feeling of incomprehension which had been the driving force behind his decision to leave the paddock so early: “ I'm happy to be away from the championship. There are too many electronics, so the rider no longer matters and the bike now does almost everything by itself. The show suffers. And why are there so many races in Spain? I don't understand ". This year, however, it was quite easy to understand due to COVID-19 which almost left everyone at home without a penny left…
