George Martin

It's been a long time since we've seen Jorge Martin at such a party during a Grand Prix. And yet, on the difficult track of the Catalan Grand Prix, here he is again at the forefront, reassuring about the technical solutions found in his box and his physical condition which he will have to optimize through an operation after this weekend . However, it promises to be operational for the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring which will follow. A newfound enthusiasm that comes at the right time in a paddock where futures are decided…

On a Friday spent on the Montmelo track, heated white-hot by a blazing sun, George Martin was able to put aside his technical problems with the GP22, his physical problems and his doubts, even if he still crashed on this first day of the Grand Prix of Catalonia. An accident which did not disrupt the positive waves released, since he is fifth on the timesheet.

« It was a beautiful day, I found my level again » he rejoices. “ I can be fast and stable. I am very happy. This morning when I regained the good sensations, I pushed and fell in FP1 but I regained good confidence and I did the lap alone. With the hard tire behind I found myself very well, we have to evaluate the medium because Aleix and Bezzecchi were fast, but the basic configuration is there ».

He makes a mention about the state of the track which unpleasantly surprised more than one: “ it's the worst of the season but for me it's like I'm starting everything again: I have to understand what to use on the back and also on the front, so I focus on something else, but yes, driving there is a disaster ". He adds : " I struggled a lot during the last two races, but today I feel more in place, I can brake the bike, take the curb with the brakes in hand without falling ».

Jorge Martin: “ the idea came from the guys at Öhlins«

« I lost three races. Jerez, Mugello and Le Mans. I could have been faster, but I couldn't be fast in the corners because of the fork. I have to work on my style to adapt to the bike ". Then he goes into detail: “ the idea came from the guys at Öhlins. I have to thank them, because this was not in the plans, otherwise I would have dragged the problem with me ».

On the physical fitness side, things are better too: “ today it went very well, I had no problems, when that happens my arm falls asleep. I don't feel anything so I can't fly. Fortunately that didn't happen to me either at Mugello, all weekend. But it's better to settle this permanently, prevent it from happening again in the future and forget about it. It's a problem that many people have, but in everyday life it doesn't cause problems, but I'm a pilot " finished Jorge Martin.
