On paper, this Catalan Grand Prix should bring a smile to the face of Valentino Rossi who has found a lot of satisfaction in his prolific career on the Montmeló track. But that was also the case at Le Mans and Mugello and we know how things turned out this year. In fact, the Doctor shows up in Barcelona with a touch of resignation…
After the disappointing Italian Grand Prix, Valentino Rossi prepares to take to the track for the Catalunya Grand Prix, the seventh stage of the 2019 World Championship. The driver Yamaha will try to turn the page on the disappointing last meeting at home to regain the best positions and he will do it on a track that suits him and in which he has obtained excellent results in the past.
Val has thus achieved success ten times, including seven in the premier category (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2016). He also claimed five second places in 2003, 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2015, while last year he finished third behind Jorge Lorenzo et Marc Marquez.
But for this edition, the nine-time title holder is not deluded… “ After the complicated weekend at Mugello, we are going to Barcelona, a circuit that I really like. But it will surely be another difficult weekend in Spain, because last time we were not very competitive and we will have to work hard " said Valentino Rossi . “ We will do our best to resolve any issues and achieve the best possible result. On Monday there will also be a testing day and we will try to work as best as possible and make the most of this opportunity ».
Since MotoGP regained a foothold in Europe, the fate of Valentino Rossi in the championship is getting worse. He is now only fifth in the provisional general standings, but still the best of the four Yamahas in the running…
