Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, President), Paul Duparc (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA) took the following decisions during a meeting organized on June 30 in Assen , in the presence of Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Trimby (IRTA, Secretary of the meeting) and Corrado Cecchinelli (Technology Director):

Technical regulations – effective in 2019

CAN protocol and connection organizer

A new, more robust CAN connection diagram has been agreed for the MotoGP™ machines and some limitations have been imposed on the exchange of information between the different CAN devices (the inertial unit for example) and the electronic unit (ECU). This, combined with a unified inertial unit, represents a considerable advance in the field of electronic security.

Aerodynamic fairings

The Technical Director has published certain guidelines on the design of aerodynamic fairings. New limits have notably been introduced with regard to their dimensions and the combination between the different parts. Therefore, current designs will still be permitted, but it will not be possible to remove or swap important aerodynamic parts. Furthermore, the approval process for these fairings will be based on what was done the previous season and will be more objective.

Sports regulations – effective in 2019

Age exception for the Moto3™ World Championship

The winner of the Junior Moto3™ World Championship is already allowed to race in the Moto3™ World Championship, even if he is not at least 16 years old. This exception will be extended to the winner of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

In both cases, the minimum age to obtain an FIM license to race in the Moto3™ World Championship is 15 years.
