The news was not really expected and despite its relative surprise it did not arouse enthusiasm. Suffice to say that barely made official on the 2019 calendar, this future new Mexican Grand Prix is not starting off on a good basis. And, over time, it is worry that dominates more than adherence. It must be said that the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit chosen for the party is scary...

There was skepticism, to say the least, of Valentino Rossi. Here is now the cry of alarm boy lorenzo who is none other than the father of George : " I know this Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. It is located in the middle of Mexico City and in an area where the most beautiful track in the world can be built. But it needs to be completely revised and redesigned. Racing there as it stands in MotoGP would be suicide ».

A final judgment while Mexico popped up on the calendar because Finland fell behind on its “Kimiring” site. Furthermore, the organizer Dorna receives the profits from its investment in a MotoGP which has become the most exciting show in motorsport. As a result, there is no shortage of candidates: Indonesia, Brazil, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates want their Grand Prix.

The site has been known to Formula 1 since 2015 and was designed by Hermann Tilke. The circuit layout is 4,304 meters long, with 17 curves, some of which are at reduced speed, which oppose a long straight line. It is not yet approved by the FIM which will do so after compliance. It is already being said that essential points will have to be reviewed before going any further. Which means investment, work and completion time…

But we are in MotoGP and the safety of the riders cannot be bargained for: the officialization of the event actually implies that all this work will be carried out before the slightest motorcycle sets a wheel on it! Dorna and FIM have visited the site on several occasions and have already fully assessed the situation and ordered modifications, as they did recently for Barcelona.
