The Circuit de Catalunya is finalizing all preparations to start a new season, finishing work on its turn 10, in which modifications were made this month to increase safety.

In December 2020, it was announced that turn 10 would be modified For safety reasons. Traditionally, the Formula 1 track used the inside variant of turns 10 and 11, while MotoGP went through the historic track. However, in 2016, after the death of Moto2 rider Luis Salom in the former penultimate corner, the FIM decided to use the same layout as the cars due to the proximity of the track barrier at turn 10.

For the 2021 season, and with the consensus of the FIA and FIM, the Circuit de Catalunya has designed a new and unique variation for turn 10, which will be located halfway between the current two. The configuration of curves 10 and 11 will be affected in this work, because they will be used in their original form but with more narrowness thus gaining safety.

In addition, this safety will be increased since there will be a larger escape zone, incorporating an asphalt zone followed by a gravel zone so that pilots do not reach the wall in the event of a fall.

The restructuring work began on January 11, is already well advanced and will be completed at the end of this week, when the last layer of asphalt will be applied. In February, the circuit will reopen for private training and resume already scheduled events.
